for West ERDF

From 2020 until 2023 SWOM has worked to take away the gap between talents who are searching for a job and employers in the Haaglanden region. Thanks to the Opportunities for West – ERDF project, we’ve made a significant impact: increasing visibility for vocationally professionals with disabilities, supporting employers in finding the right candidates. We were able to accomplish 124 new jobs.

Tackling the Mismatch in the Labour Market

The labour market in The Hague faces a challenge: many vacancies remain unfullfilled, while at the same time, professionals with practical skills struggle to find suitable jobs. This mismatch is especially relevant as the city prepares for major transitions. Such as, the energy transition by 2040. Which requires a highly skilled workforce.

Through the project 'Work with the vocational educated professional', we helped 86 employers take steps towards a more inclusive hiring process. Some of them benefited from information sharing sessions and raising awareness, while others were able to create, with our help, new job opportunities.

Real Impact, Real Change

We helped employers fill vacancies by directly matching practical professionals with the right job opportunities. In addition, we created long-term awareness about—and increased general acceptance of—hiring people with disabilities. This is a crucial step towards a more inclusive labour market—one where talent isn’t overlooked, and vacant jobs do not remain vacant.

A Future of More Opportunities

The success of this project has created a strong foundation for the future. Employers which have experienced the value of hiring practical professionals are more likely to continue doing so. For the many skilled individuals still seeking the right opportunity, this means better access to meaningful employment.

By working together, we didn’t just solve short term hiring challenges SWOM helped build a more inclusive, resilient and skilled workforce for the Haaglanden region.
